A satisfied customer may appreciate your work and still never write a review or refer anyone. They are busy too. You can make those actions easier without making them an obligation.
First, give every customer a clear way to raise a concern. Treat feedback as useful information about the work. Ask what went well and what could have been clearer. Do not make the question a test they must pass before receiving a public review link.
Request honest reviews consistently
Use a neutral request at an appropriate point in the experience. Make it easy to find the review route, and let the customer decide whether to use it.
Thank you for choosing us for [project]. If you would like to share your experience, you can leave an honest review here: [link]. We also welcome any feedback you would prefer to send directly.
For Google Maps, do not offer incentives, discourage negative reviews or selectively ask only customers expected to be positive. Do not pressure them to write particular content. Follow the current policy of the platform you use. [R10]
Make referrals easy to describe
Tell people the type of work you are suited to. “We are taking inquiries for bathroom installations in [area] from [period]” gives someone a concrete connection to make. Keep availability statements accurate.
If a customer introduces you, respond professionally and respect the new person's choice. An introduction is not automatic permission for an indefinite marketing sequence.
Collect proof while the project is still clear
With permission, document the original problem, important constraints, what you delivered and the result you can substantiate. Obtain permission for images, names and quotes you intend to publish. Protect private details such as addresses, family information and access arrangements.
Specificity builds credibility. “Reconfigured storage around an awkward access route” explains more than “another amazing transformation.” If you mention a measurable result, retain the evidence and define what was measured.
Reconnect when there is a useful reason
Record relevant maintenance intervals, agreed future phases or service dates. Contact customers through permitted channels at an appropriate time. A reminder should be connected to something they may need, with an easy way to decline further contact.
One useful improvement: create a short project note for your next completed job while the details are fresh. Even if it never becomes marketing, it will help you remember what made the job successful and what to repeat.
